Famous Last Words: Recovering from the Flu

The past couple of weeks I've definitely fallen behind due to being sick. This week, I only completed half of the reading, which is unfortunate because I was excited for this section. I think I may use the extra credit reading in a future week to go back and revisit this week's sections. I remember the reading that I did complete was strange and that it left me wondering if it actually conveyed any moral lesson, and who the audience for that story was. I definitely want to revisit those ideas in future storytelling. Sadly, I also didn't complete the storytelling assignment for this week so I'll have to remember to come back to this later in the semester.

This week I had to write a strategy brief for an advertising campaign for my ad copy class. Normally I hate copywriting with a passion–I'm much better at art direction and academic writing. However, I think I nailed that assignment and that I might finally be getting the hang of a solid copywriting strategy. As for this class, I think I do my best writing when I'm fresh off of doing something non-creative. When I have to switch gears so abruptly, my brain goes to some strange places which works well for myths.

I read an introduction from someone about post service workers delivering mail addressed to the sun and moon, and I thought the combination of those two worlds was so smart. The writing was also very engaging and I'll definitely have to go back and reference it when writing my stories.

I have also fallen behind in my other classes as a result of this lovely, wonderful, amazing flu that is traveling amongst OU students at the moment. However, I'm finally bouncing back and I'm excited to throw myself back into work and campus life next week.

Here's an infographic with some flu tips for anyone who hasn't gotten the flu yet and wants to avoid it!

Introduction to an Illustrator

Hello! I am a junior Advertising major with a minor in Religious Studies. Still feels weird to type "junior"–it's hard to believe I'm halfway done! I began OU as an International Studies major with a focus on China, but I lacked some crucial things for my career path: I hate politics and I'm very bad at Mandarin. Although China still holds a special place in my heart , I decided to pivot into graphic design. I took a crash course in Adobe Creative Suite at the beginning of last year and loved every second of it. Soon, some friends started asking me to do commission work for them. One thing led to another, and I learned I liked illustrating more than graphic design and strategy. Even though I'm still studying Advertising in the hope of getting a decent job when I graduate, I currently work as a freelance illustrator and want to continue doing so into the foreseeable future. Week 2 Story: The Faces of the Moon

Thousands of years ago, a man who was all-powerful looked up into the night sky. The moon was there as always, but tonight he was frowning. The all-powerful man called to him, "Oh moon, whatever is wrong? You sleep all day and watch over the sky at night. Your life seems wonderful." The moon answered, "My view is beautiful but I am lonely. The stars are so far away and all night I watch as men happily live their lives. I wish I was a man like you." The all-powerful man replied, "Then you shall be one." And the moon became a man. As a man, he worked as a shepherd in the fields. Although he was less lonely, he was tired of standing all day in the heat. There was no cover of trees to give him comfort. However, he noticed rabbits darting around him as he worked, playing and taking shelter in the long grass. The next time he saw the all-powerful man, he said, "I no longer want to be a man. I wish to be a rabbit: free from responsibility and able to find sh...
