Famous Last Words: The End

Wow, it's so crazy that it's the end of the semester already. Junior year is flying by.

This week, I took a ton of time to go look through other people's blogs and see all the cool work everyone has done. I wish I had more time to revise my project, but I'm also happy with the work I did this semester as well. Again, crazy that this is my last post.

I don't think my story for this week (my final story) was my best, but it completed the three aspects of my storybook that I was really wanting to cover. Writing in first person like that was a very new experiment, and one that definitely helped me be more creative in other aspects of my life and academics. Right now I'm working on a 25 page final paper for another class, and I don't think I would have taken some of the creative turns that I have without the brainstorming and processes of this class.

Most of my finals happen during dead week for me this semester, so we're in the home stretch. I've definitely procrastinated on preparing for most of them, but everything will come together–it always does.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get much work done over break because I've been visiting my sister in the hospital. This was frustrating at first, but ultimately I really needed the time off, and it was so nice to be able to focus on being with family for a short time. The waiting time in airports also gave me some down time to catch up on blog comments and other work.

I'm definitely going to miss the freedom that this class gave me to explore what I wanted to and write about what interests me. It was a great experience and one that I hope to continue implementing in other facets of my education.

  1. Hi Rachel!

Congrats on finishing this class! Also, so sorry about your sister being in the hospital. I hope she gets well soon! I'm glad you got the time to spend a lot of time with your family. I'm also going to miss the freedom this class gave me. These classes always bring out the creativity in everyone. Good luck on your finals!

Introduction to an Illustrator

Hello! I am a junior Advertising major with a minor in Religious Studies. Still feels weird to type "junior"–it's hard to believe I'm halfway done! I began OU as an International Studies major with a focus on China, but I lacked some crucial things for my career path: I hate politics and I'm very bad at Mandarin. Although China still holds a special place in my heart , I decided to pivot into graphic design. I took a crash course in Adobe Creative Suite at the beginning of last year and loved every second of it. Soon, some friends started asking me to do commission work for them. One thing led to another, and I learned I liked illustrating more than graphic design and strategy. Even though I'm still studying Advertising in the hope of getting a decent job when I graduate, I currently work as a freelance illustrator and want to continue doing so into the foreseeable future. Week 3 Story: The Unspeakable Name

Thousands and thousands of years ago, a princess was born. And as she grew, her mother told her lots of stories. Stories about riches and kings and wars. One night, she told the princess a new story: a legend that there exists a secret, unspeakable name that has the power to create life. The princess was curious and asked her mother if she could find it and create friends for herself. Her mother chuckled and reminded her it was only a legend. When her mother died years later, the princess became queen. Although she enjoyed the crown, she found many parts of her job tedious and unimportant. One day, during a particularly boring meeting, the queen was on the verge of falling asleep when one of her advisors mentioned a piece of paper with a single word. It had been found in a tomb miles away and the discoverers tried with all their might to speak the word with no luck. The princess demanded that it be brought to her. The queen remembered the childhood story of the unspeakable name and
